Acid Skin and Alkaline Blood

How much do you know about Acid and Alkaline?

Acid contains large number of hydrogen ions. The more hydrogen ions a type of food contains, the more acidic it is. Therefore, to determine the food acidity or alkalinity, we calculate the number of hydrogen ions using a logarithm known as PH, which stands for "
Hydrogen ion concentration in solution to the Power of 10x a number".

Your Skin PH

Secretions from the sweat, sebaceous glands and protein coating of the skin form the acid mantle. The PH value of this protecting coating is between 5.0-5.6. If the mantle is damaged by anything more acid or alkaline then this, skins becomes more to dryness or oiliness, infection and aging or takes on an uneven texture.

External and Internal Factors that Cause Skin Damage:
  • over expose to sunlight
  • excessive perspiration
  • cosmetics
  • poor skin hygiene
  • digestive upset
  • health problems
  • imbalanced acid and alkaline diet

How is your skin?

Sallow, oily, flaky and inflammatory skin is often an early sign of some internal imbalance or illness. Take early precaution, watch and protect your skin. Live your life to the full!

Too Much Acid Not Enough Alkaline

It's not only meat and bread that are acid-forming, rich sauces, gravies, sugary and fatty food are some of the common causes. Daily lifestyle such as overwork, late nights, lack of sleep, stress, inactivity, anger, anxiety, fear, and worry can cause acid-forming too!

Common signs of acid overload:

  • Sour taste in mouth
  • Dull hair
  • Body odour
  • White tongue
  • Constipation
  • Bad breath
  • Pale complexion
  • hives

Health Warning!

Acid-forming residue overload puts strain on our body internal system. It slows down the elimination of waste, causing a build-up of some rather smelly gases such as sulphur, phosphorus and chlorine that react with other chemicals to form acids. When cells contain too much acid over a long period of time, they lose their elasticity and flexibility, impeding blood flow and increasing the risk of blockages by allowing cholesterol to build up in the arteries.

Acid overload could aggravate health condition such as:
  • rheumatism
  • arthritis
  • diabetes
  • gout
  • gallstones
  • kidney problems
  • heart disease
  • muscle and bone disorders
  • poor lung function
  • skin allergy

Acid-Forming and Alkaline-Forming

It's easy to mix up acid and acid forming. Food such as lemons, apples or grapes may have an acid taste, but once they have been consumed and digested, absorbed and metabolized, they turned into a kind of mineral that is said to be "alkaline-forming". Food that is obviously acid before it is consumed, does not mean it will remain acid after being through the digestive system.

On the other hand, when we eat non-acidic food such as meat and seafood, they end up as acid-forming residue after the digestive process has been completed.

In another word, acid-forming food and alkaline-forming food are classified not by how acidic or alkaline they are before being consumed, but by the leftovers they leave in the body after the digestive process is over.

Sample of acid-forming food:

  • Alcohol & soft drinks
  • Bread & biscuits
  • Cakes & sweets
  • Microwaved food
  • Processed food
  • Poultry & eggs
  • Rice & pulses
  • Seafood & meat
  • Sugar & sweetener

Sample of alkaline-forming food:

  • Buttermilk & yoghurt
  • Fresh and dried fruit
  • Fresh and dried herbs
  • Fresh peas & beans
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Seaweed
  • Seeds & nuts
  • Shoyu (soysauce) & Miso
  • Tofu & beancurd
